Removing Old Wax Coating from the Floor
There are several types of flooring that require waxing to keep them looking shiny and gleaming. These include linoleum, wood, or vinyl flooring. Over the years several layers of wax build up on the floor or the surface. Too many coats of wax make the floor look dull and discolored. So once in a few years, you need to strip down the wax to remove the old layers before putting down a new one. There are commercial strippers available in the market that are expensive and chemical based. But here is a very simple and inexpensive way to remove the wax. Mix one cup of white vinegar and one cup cream of tartar in 5 liters of warm water. Soak a cloth in the solution and apply it to the surface. Leave for a few minutes and then use a hard scrubbing brush or a scouring pad to remove the wax. Use a circular motion to loosen the layers. Dip the brush in the solution for stubborn areas or as needed. Once all the wax is off, mop the solution off with clean water.
Grease Stain From Tiles
Tiled surfaces are built to last. But if they are not cleaned properly, they can begin to look dull and dirty. This is because of grease and grime which is hard to clean off. This is especially true if you have an old set in grease stain on your tile surface. But worry no more. Use washing soda to remove the stain and renew your tiles. You will need to wear gloves and eyewear as washing soda can be toxic. Make sure that the area is well ventilated before you begin. Open the doors and windows and turn on ventilation fan before you start. Add half a cup of washing soda to 5 liters of warm water. Mix well. Use a clean mop to apply the solution to the surface. Leave for a few minutes and then use a scrub brush to lift off the grease stains. Use a toothbrush to clean the grout to lift off grease marks. Once all the grease has come off. Wash down the floor with plain warm water. You will have sparkling clean surface again.
Keeping Laminated Floors Stain Free
As more homes turn to cheaper options instead of real wood, laminates are the first choice. But since they are not exactly wood but a composite of wood and plastic, removing stains from these floors is difficult without spoiling the finish. The best way to deal with it is to use commercial products recommended by the manufacturer. If there is none available then use vinegar to clean up organic stains. Use a mixture of one cup vinegar to 5 liters of water. For grease marks use mild soapy water to clean up. If the floor looks dull and dirty mop it with warm soapy water to refresh it.
